Sun, Oct 13, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Blugold Super Six Abby Freiborg A four-time letterwinner, Abby Freiborg ended her Blugold volleyball career last year, leading the team to its fourth straight NCAA post-season appearance. In addition to the NCAA Championships, the Blugolds were WIAC co-champions in 2006 and 2008. In 2008 she was named the conference Player of the Year while also receiving the WIAC Scholar-Athlete award for volleyball. She was also named a second team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American. Freiborg was also recognized as a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District third team selection last year. Freiborg was highly respected by her teammates, being voted Most Valuable Player twice while receiving rookie of the year honors in 2005. She served as a team captain in 2008, a year in which she also earned the team's most valuable offensive player award after leading the team with 373 kills and 65 service aces. A four-time Dean's List honoree, Freiborg was a presenter at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in 2008 while she also presented at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association research day. She was on the Blugolds' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was part of Athletes in Action. Freiborg was also Vice President of UWEC's National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. Freiborg graduated with a 3.72 GPA in communication sciences and disorders last spring and is now seeking a master's degree at UW-Eau Claire. |
