Sat, Jan 25, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Football Team Downs Prague Lions Posted: Saturday, June 4, 2005 PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC - Converting three turnovers into scores, the UW-Eau Claire football team defeated the Prague Lions, 28-3, in its final European contest here Saturday. Blugold head coach Todd Hoffner reported the game was played in rain and 70-degree weather, a definite contrast to the 90-degree heat the team endured during its 54-39 triumph over the Chrysler Vikings in Vienna, Austria last week. The Blugolds also scrimmaged against Schwabisch Hall, Germany during their two-week tour. The team will return home Monday. Against Prague, the Blugolds got rushing scores from Mike Hennessey, Ryan Darley and Joe Gast. Tony Hull caught a touchdown strike for the fourth Blugold score. Andy Schneider and Josh Petermann kicked two extra points apiece to account for the 28 Blugold points. Luke Plese and Brent Weber each picked off a pass and Bob McNutt recovered a fumble, all of which led to touchdowns. The Lions' lone points came after a Blugold fumble. The Blugolds built a 21-3 halftime lead and prevailed against the Lions, who have won the Czech National Championship four of the last five seasons, despite being flagged for 15 offensive penalties which Hoffner said "bogged down the offense." - TP - |
