EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Three members of the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's track & field and cross country teams have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Five College Division Second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced today.

For the men, Thomas Breitbach (Jr.-Muskego, Wis.) was selected to the team while Ashlyn Mauer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and Corinna Saager (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./East) were named to the women’s team.

Breitbach had exceptional cross country and track & field seasons. A history major with a 3.50 GPA, Breitbach most recently finished the outdoor track season with two runner-up finishes, one in the 5,000-meter run and one in the 10,000-meter run. During the indoor season, he was the conference champion in the 5,000-meter run and finished with All-American honors at indoor nationals. He also was the Blugold men’s only representative at cross country nationals last fall, finishing 93rd overall.

Mauer, a communication sciences and disorders major with a 3.95 GPA, competed at cross country nationals and outdoor track and field nationals. She finished in 129th place at cross country nationals to help lead the Blugolds to a fourth place finish. At the conference championship, she was 14th overall, helping the Blugolds to their fourth straight WIAC title. During the outdoor track season, she won a WIAC title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while winning a conference title in the 5,000-meter run at the indoor championships. At outdoor track nationals, she took 13th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Saager, who holds a 3.99 GPA and is a nursing major, earned All-American honors at indoor track nationals as her 4x400-meter relay team finished in eighth place. She was part of the winning 4x200-meter relay team at the indoor conference championships. During the outdoor season, Saager competed at nationals in the 4x400-meter relay and finished in 11th place in preliminaries. She also took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles at the conference championship.

The Academic All‐District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two‐year schools.
