Four Blugolds Selected to Softball All-Conference First Team

MADISON, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Four members of the UW-Eau Claire softball team earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Sara Baumgartner (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.)Jess Freagon (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell)Emily Haluska (So.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Aleisha Harper (Jr.-Mondovi, Wis./Eau Claire North) were all chosen as members of the first team squad. The Blugolds’ four selections ties UW-Whitewater for the most selections to this year’s first team.

This season marks the third consecutive year Harper has earned a spot on the All-Conference first team. This season, Harper averaged .403 (54-134) and scored 30 runs. She also nailed 16 RBIs and was one of two players to steal seven bases, a team-high.

Baumgartner was one of just three Blugolds to start all 43 games this season. She has an average of .404 (57-141) and has tallied the most runs – 39 – of all WIAC players this year. Baumgartner also recorded 32 RBIs, the third most on the team.

Freagon, who is batting an even .400 (56-140), recorded a conference-high 52 RBIs, also a team record for most in a season. She slammed eight homeruns to lead the Blugolds and also started all 43 games.

Haluska maintains a .407 batting average (50-123) and started 41 of the 43 games. She tallied 27 RBIs and scored 22 runs for the Blugolds.

Kaity Acker (Sr.-Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton) also received conference recognition for her efforts this season. Acker earned one of nine spots on the All-Sportsmanship team. Players selected to the All-Sportsmanship team are recognized for their superior sportsmanship throughout the season.
