ST. PAUL, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team narrowly got by Hamline University (Minn.), defeating the Pipers 180.150-179.800 tonight.

The win over Hamline was the Blugolds’ first in a dual meet since December 13, 2002 when Eau Claire won 171.075-165.775.

The Blugolds relied on strong performances across the board as they won only two of the five events. Eau Claire came away with the top finishes on both the vault and balance beam.

On the vault, Sarah Hulbert (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) won with a 9.375. Danielle Schulzetenberg (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) and Molly Senske (So.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) tied for third with a 9.325, career-high marks for both. The Blugolds combined for a season-high score of 46.300 in the event.

On the balance beam, Schulzetenberg won with a season-high score of 9.450. Cece Solem (So.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) scored a third place finish with a mark of 9.100.

While the Blugolds finished with a season-high score of 43.975 on the uneven bars, Rachel Behmer (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) had the team’s top finish as she took second place. Her score of 9.300 was a season-high.

In the floor exercise, Hamline took the top three spots while Solem had the Blugolds’ best finish as she took fourth with a score of 9.275.

In the all-around competition, Schulzetenberg took second, finishing with a season-best mark of 36.475.

The Blugolds will be at UW-Whitewater on Saturday for another dual meet. Action is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
