Sun, Dec 8, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Basketball Avenges Early-Season Loss against Eagles By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director LA CROSSE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - While the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team lost 64-50 at home against UW-La Crosse on December 8, the Blugolds won big against the Eagles on their home court tonight, 61-43. In a game where the Blugolds never trailed, they finished with a season-low turnover mark with nine. Their previous low of 12 also came against the Eagles earlier this season. The Blugolds opened tonight’s game with an 8-2 run and continued to build their lead throughout the night. In the opening half, the Blugolds hit 16 field goals to La Crosse’s six, and took a 16-point lead into halftime. While Eau Claire hit the opening shot in the second half, the Eagles found themselves down by just nine points six minutes into the half. From there the Blugolds used a 16-3 run to build a 22-point advantage, their largest lead of the game. The Blugolds only scored five more points in the final six minutes but it was enough for the 18-point win. Sarah Bingea (So.-Delano, Minn.) finished with a game-high 16 points while Hannah Mesick (Sr.-Chatfield, Minn.) added 14. Mesick and Ellen Plendl (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) both finished with eight rebounds to lead the Blugolds. Eau Claire outshot La Crosse 40 percent (24-for-60) to 24.5 (13-for-53), the lowest shooting percentage the Blugolds have allowed this season. Eau Claire improves to 11-7 on the season and 5-4 in WIAC play. The Eagles drop to 13-5 and 6-3 in the conference. The Blugolds will be home Wednesday night for a game against UW-Oshkosh, a team the Blugolds beat earlier this year 64-52. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. |
