Tue, Dec 3, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Shuts Out Hamline By: Ashley Hofer, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (uwecblugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team rang in 2011 the right way, at one point scoring three goals in two minutes to dominate Hamline University (Minn.) for the 5-0 win. Five different players scored for the Blugolds en route to the big win. Kristin Faber (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) kicked off the scoring 10:56 into the game on a power play. With a one-goal lead already on the board, the Blugolds made it a 4-0 game late in the second period. In just under two minutes, Nikki Kothenbeutel (Fr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), Toni Simones (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) and Rachel Vath (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn.) all notched goals, beginning with Kothenbeutel's at the 15:25 minute mark. The Blugolds - who outshot Hamline 34-16 in the 60 minutes - didn't give their opponent an opportunity for a comeback in the third period. Christine Dickinson (Sr.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) - with help from Allison Malecek (So.-Maple Plain, Minn./Delano) and Kelli Johnson (Sr.-Farmington, Minn.) - found the back of the net with just over three minutes remaining to further sink Hamline. Jordyn Quiring (Fr.-Calgary, Alberta/Edge School), Mara Stormer (So.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Ally Derthick (Fr.-Knoxville, Tenn./New Hampton Prep) all took turns guarding the Eau Claire net and made a combined 16 saves. Stormer, who made three saves in the first, was awarded the win. The Blugolds are now 6-5-1 on the season. Next Friday and Saturday the Blugolds will travel to Hancock, Mich. for a pair of games against Finlandia University (Mich.). Friday's game is set to begin at 6 p.m. |
