(UWECBlugolds.com) - A career night by Hannah Mesick (Sr.-Chatfield, Minn.) helped lead the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team to a 73-46 win over Randolph-Macon College (Va.) at the 2010 Daytona Beach Shootout at the ICI Center tonight. Mesick finished the game with a double-double, her fourth this season, as she scored a career-high 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. The 12 boards rank second best in her time with the Blugolds while her career-high of 14 came earlier this season. She also had four steals to tie for the third best total in her career and also came away with three assists. From the floor she went 12-for-18 and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. While the game remained close for the first two minutes, a 10-0 run that ended eight minutes into the first half gave the Blugolds a 17-6 lead. The closest Randolph-Macon would get the rest of the way was six points while the Blugolds maintained a double-digit lead for the final 25 minutes of the game. The Blugolds’ largest lead of the game, 29 points, came with just one minute left to play. Eau Claire dominated down low, scoring 32 points in the paint to Randolph-Macon’s eight. The Blugolds also finished with 51 rebounds to 27 for Randolph-Macon. Eau Claire outshot Randolph-Macon 47.1 percent to 22.4 percent from the floor. In addition to Mesick, Sarah Bingea (So.-Delano, Minn.) and Nicole Christianson (Jr.-Chetek, Wis.) also finished in double-figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Christianson had a game-high six assists. Eau Claire is now 1-0 all-time against Randolph-Macon, as the teams met for the first time ever tonight, while improving to 5-4 on the season. Randolph-Macon drops to 5-3. The Blugolds will wrap up their trip to Florida with a game against Luther College (Iowa) tomorrow. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (Eastern). |
