(UWECBlugolds.com) - After dominating River Falls yesterday, the UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team had a rough day at the La Crosse relays, collecting just 62 points for fifth place of six teams. Combined with the women’s scores, the overall Eau Claire team placed fourth with 166 points. UW-Stevens Point controlled the event with a final result of 292 points. Two third place finishes highlighted the Blugolds’ day in the all-relay competition. Ben Epperly (Fr.-Schaumburg, Ill.), Ben Macalalad (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Nick Mehring (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) completed the 1500-yard freestyle relay in 15:04.63 for the third spot. Eau Claire also picked up a third in the 100-yard free diving three relay. The Blugolds also had three relay teams record solid fourth place runs. Alex Plaetzer (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./John Marshall), Alex Card (Fr.-Prior Lake, Minn.), Tommy Dahl (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and Corey Groshens (So.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay while the trio of Groshens, Aaron Lickel (Fr.-Madison, Wis./East) and Jonathan Poppele (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) finished fourth in the 300-yard individual-medley relay. Eau Claire also earned third in the 100-yard free diving one relay. The Blugolds will next compete in two weeks at the Falcon Invite and the St. Thomas Diving Invite in Minnesota. The two-day Falcon Invite will start at 10 a.m. on Dec. 3 while the diving invitational will take place at 1 p.m. on Dec. 4. |
