Thu, Dec 12, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Swimming & Diving Wins Big Over River Falls By: Ashley Hofer, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team never relinquished a single first place finish en route to a blowout 120-27 win over UW-River Falls today at the McPhee Physical Education Center. In the 11 individual events, 10 different Blugolds earned wins. Katrina Fitzgerald (So.-Farmington, Minn.) was the only Eau Claire participant to earn multiple individual wins, as she recorded top-scoring dives in both the one and three-meter competitions. Alaina Guns (Jr.-Conrath, Wis./Flambeau) picked up the victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle race, with her time of 11:30.32 just beating out second-place finisher Amy Stewart (Sr.-South Milwaukee, Wis.). Julia Olson (Jr.-Faribault, Minn.) raced to first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.54 seconds and Megan Finley (Sr.-Waunakee, Wis.) laid down a 55.55 to pick up the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle. Grace Fair with a time of 2:03.37 and Nicole Freeman with a swim of 5:35.27 picked up respective wins in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle competitions. Emily Behrens (Fr.-Faribault, Minn.) added to the Eau Claire victories by swimming a 2:24.99 in the 200-yard individual medley. Sara Eggebrecht (So.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) also notched a win in the 200-yard backstroke and Kirsten Lickel (Jr.-Madison, Wis./East) grabbed the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke competition. Nicole Dorvinen (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) swam a 2:11.22 to beat the competition in the 200-yard butterfly race. The Blugolds also dominated the relays, sweeping the top five spots in the 200-yard medley relay and the first six in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Preissel, Dorvinen, Maggie Reilly (Fr.-Saint Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and Kristin Peters (Fr.-Farmington, Minn.) swam the medley in just 1:56.25 while the quartet of Dorvinen, Behrens, Olson and Fair recorded a time of 1:44.25 in the freestyle for first places. Tomorrow, the Blugolds will travel to compete in the UW-La Crosse Relays. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. |
