(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated UW-River Falls 9-0 at the Ramer Courts today. The Blugolds, who have won six of their last seven dual competitions, improve to 6-3 on the season and 4-1 in the WIAC. In doubles play, the Blugolds competed very well, with the No. 2 and No. 3 duos winning 8-0. Taylor Heltne (So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Katie Gillman (Fr.-Red Wing, Minn.) picked up the No. 2 win while Gretchen Bachmeier (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Mary Frassetto (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won at No. 3. Also picking up a convincing 8-1 win in the No. 1 spot was Megan Born (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) and Emily Hiebl (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East). On the way to the Blugolds sweeping singles competition, Hiebl and Bachmeier recorded 6-0, 6-1 wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively. Gillman picked up the No. 3 singles victory, winning 6-2, 6-2 while Lexi DeMario (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 and Born won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. The closest match of the day was in the No. 2 spot but Heltne was able to hold on for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory. Up next, the Blugolds will head to La Crosse to face the Eagles. Action will get underway Saturday at 10 a.m. |
