Volleyball Bounces Back with Win Over Stevens Point

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - One day after falling 3-1 to 8th-ranked UW-Whitewater, the 15th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team recorded a 3-1 victory over UW-Stevens Point at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Pointers (9-4, 1-2 WIAC) and Blugolds (8-3, 2-1 WIAC) battled back and forth in the opening set. Eau Claire ended up pulling off the win in the end 25-22.

In set two, after getting down 3-0, the Blugolds scored five unanswered points to take a 5-3 lead. Later in the set the two teams found themselves tied at 15 apiece but the Blugolds only scored two more points the rest of the way as Stevens point took the set 25-17.

Eau Claire came out strong in the final two sets and won both 25-18. Stevens Point jumped out to the early lead in the third set and the teams played close before Eau Claire scored five unanswered in the end to record the win. The final set was similar to the third and the Blugolds scored four unanswered to record the match victory.

Rachel Ver Voort (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) led the Blugolds with 17 kills while Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) had a match-high 44 assists. Danielle Lucia (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) and Elizabeth Anderson (Jr.-Rib Lake, Wis.) also reached double figures in kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Blair Murphy (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) finished with 23 digs to lead the match while three others reached double figures.

The Blugolds will be on the road Wednesday when they travel to UW-Superior to face the Yellowjackets in another WIAC match. Action will get underway at 7 p.m.
