While the Blugolds trailed heading into their final event of the night, the floor exercise, a strong performance helped lift Eau Claire to the victory. The Blugolds took five of the top six spots in the event, led by Danielle Schulzetenberg (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) with a career-best 9.475. Eau Claire finished with a 45.925, a season-high. Eau Claire also performed well on the vault with the top three scores as they finished with a 44.850. Cece Solem (Fr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) won the event with a 9.200 while Molly Senske (Fr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Sarah Hulbert (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) tied Oshkosh's Stefanie Armstrong for second with a 9.050. Samantha Howard (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) and Rachel Behmer (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) had the Blugolds' best finish, tying for fourth with a 9.000. The mark for Howard was a season-high and it was just the fourth time she finished with a 9.000 or better in 28 career routines on the bars. Schulzetenberg also won the balance beam with a 9.150, the only score above nine in the event. She also finished third in the all-around competition with a 34.875 while Solem took second with a 34.900. The Blugolds improve to 5-7 on the year while the Titans drop to 5-8. The last time the Blugolds beat Oshkosh in a dual meet was Feb. 10, 2006, a 175.975-171.550 victory at McPhee. Next up, the Blugolds will compete at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional next Sunday (March 7). The meet will be contested at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. |
