ST. PETER, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team won its first dual meet in over four years, defeating Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) at the Lund Center Forum tonight.

The Blugolds' previous dual meet victory came on February 10, 2006 when they defeated UW-Oshkosh 175.975-171.550. The win tonight was also the Blugolds' first triumph over Gustavus since March 11, 2005, when they defeated the Gusties 182.850-176.000 in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire narrowly edged the home team this evening, finishing with a score of 173.875 to Gustavus' 173.000. Interestingly, the last time the Blugolds met the Gusties in St. Peter, February 24, 2006, Gustavus won 173.875-173.000.

The Blugolds won three events on the night.

Sarah Hulbert (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) recorded a season-high mark of 9.425 as she won the vault. She was just short of her career-high score of 9.500, achieved last season on February 20 against UW-Whitewater.

In the floor exercise, Danielle Schulzetenberg (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) took top honors with a score of 9.225. Schulzetenberg also finished first on the balance beam with a 9.300 while Cece Solem (Fr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) was second with a 9.100.

Samantha Howard (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) and Rachel Behmer (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) had the Blugolds' best finish on the uneven bars with scores of 8.675, tying for second place.

In the all-around, Schulzetenberg and Solem were third and fourth, respectively, with 35.050 and 35.000.

Eau Claire improves to 3-7 on the season while Gustavus drops to 2-6.

The Blugolds will be back in competition Sunday when they travel to UW-Stout for a dual against the Blue Devils. Action will get underway at 1 p.m.
