(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team kicked off the 2010 season by taking second place out of three teams at the UW-Eau Claire Invite at the McPhee Physical Education Center tonight. Winona State University (Minn.) won the invite with a score of 172.600. The Blugolds secured second place with 171.325 points and Hamline University (Minn.) was third with 156.375. The Blugolds showed an improvement over last season as they took last place at their invite and were unable to beat any teams the rest of the season. Rachel Behmer (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) had the Blugolds' best finish of the night, taking first on the uneven bars. She finished with a score of 8.750 while the second place finisher, Heather Rummelein from Winona, scored and 8.500. The Blugolds also had three second place finishes and three third place finishes. Cece Solem (Fr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) took second in the all-around competition with 35.125, while the winner, Rummelein, had 35.275. Solem also recorded a third-place finish on the vault with a 9.100. Taking second on the vault was Sarah Hulbert (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) with a 9.175 while Diana Eisenberg (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) was second on the balance beam with a 9.150. Molly Senske (Fr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) grabbed a third place spot in the floor exercise with a score of 8.975. Samantha Howard (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) finished in third place on the uneven bars with a 8.450. The Blugolds will be back at home next Friday when they host UW-Whitewater. Action will get started at 6:30 p.m. |
