Blugold Football Earns Fifteen All-Conference Nods

MADISON - The UW-Eau Claire football team earned a conference-best fifteen selections to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference teams, it was announced by conference sports information director Matt Stanek.

Wide receiver Matt Evensen (Jr.-Junction City/Auburndale) was named to the first team on offense after receiving an honorable mention last year. Evensen finished seventh in the conference in receptions with 48 and sixth in receiving yards with 563. Evensen also tied for third with five touchdown receptions.

Cornerback Derek Sikora (Jr.-Neillsville) was named to the first team defense. Sikora led all cornerbacks in the conference with 80 tackles, which was good for seventh in the conference. Sikora tied for the conference lead in forced fumbles with two and tied for second fumble recoveries with three. He also added a sack, interception and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Four Blugolds were named to the second team offense led by quarterback Nels Fredrickson (Sr.-Burnsville, MN). Fredrickson finished third in the conference in passing yards with 2,022 and tied for fourth in touchdown passes with 15 while only throwing eight interceptions. Fredrickson finished his Blugold career third on the all-time passing yards list.

Tailback Joe Gast (Jr.-Waconia, MN) was also named to the second team for the second consecutive year. Gast finished third in the conference in rushing yards with 915 yards. He also finished third in total touchdowns with 10.

Leading the way for Fredrickson and Gast on the offensive line were second team selections Brandon Basken (Jr.-Manitowoc/Lincoln) and Devon Disrude (Sr.-Milton) and honorable mention Pete Monfre (Sr.-New Berlin/Eisenhower).

Three Blugolds were named to the second team defense. Linebacker Jared Roeker (Jr.-Mauston) was named after finishing third in the conference in tackles with 96. Roeker added four passes defended a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Joining Roeker was defensive end Brent Crank (Sr.-Cadott) and safety Brent Tieri (So.-Rice Lake). Crank led the Blugolds in sacks with four and added eight tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery. Tieri tied for the conference lead with two forced fumbles and added two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Tight end Don Kahl (Sr.-Brookfield/East) was named as an honorable mention for the second consecutive year. Kahl caught 36 passes and four touchdowns. Punter Mitch Schaeuble (Fr.-Wrightstown) was also named as an honorable mention after leading the conference with a 40.7 yards per punt average.

Rounding out the All-Conference selections was nose tackle Dave Maas (Sr.-Waunakee), linebacker Mike Lansing (Sr.-Janesville/Craig) and Justin Greenwood (Sr.-Park Falls). Maas was also named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete.
