Please include a source of proof (newspaper, yearbook, etc.) to support your claim. ![]() Tue, Feb 18, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Hockey Falls To No. 8 UW-River Falls Posted: Friday, February 20, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Following its first goalless game of the season last Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team struggled against eighth-ranked UW-River Falls and fell 5-0 tonight at Hobbs Ice Center. In the first period, the Falcons' Ashly Berner scored the game's first goal at 8:47 while Stefanie Schmitz struck again for River Falls at 10:05 to end the first period with a score of 2-0 in favor of the away team. The second period proved scoreless for the Blugolds again as UW-River Falls' Jessica Thompson scored with a little less than two minutes left in the period to put the Falcons up by three. River Falls wouldn't let up on the Blugold net in the third period as Brittany Erickson scored at 6:36 to take a four-goal lead. The Falcons would strike again 34 seconds later as Abby Sunderman scored the fifth goal of the night to end the game with a score of 5-0 in favor of the Falcons. The Falcons out-shot the Blugolds by one, 26-25 tonight. Morgan Pieper (Fr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) defended the Blugold net for 47:10, picking up 18 saves on the day while Danika Porter (So.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) played for the last 12:50, picking up only three saves. The Blugolds are 12-9-3 this season while sitting in fourth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with a record of 7-8-2. UW-River Falls currently sits atop the NCHA with a conference record of 14-2-1, with its only two conference losses coming from UW-Superior and UW-Stevens Point earlier this season. The Falcons' hold an overall record of 16-5-3. In the all-time series, the Blugolds are 5-24-3 after losing a 5-3 battle to the Falcons earlier this season in River Falls. Next up, the Blugolds will skate again tomorrow night at Hobbs Ice Center in its final home game of the regular season against UW-River Falls.
