With the loss, the Blugolds remain in fourth place in the conference standings with a 11-5-3 overall record, and a 6-4-2 mark in NCHA play. The Pointers remain in first place, improving to 10-2-5 on the season and 8-2-3 in conference play. Stevens Point struck first with a goal at the 17:37 mark in the first period, and never looked back. The Pointers went on to score a goal in each of the three periods and take a commanding 3-0 lead. Eau Claire eliminated the potential for a shutout in the third period, on a Kristin Faber (So.-Austin, Minn.) goal at the 19:57 mark in the final period. The unassisted goal was Faber's team-leading 12th of the year, giving her 23 points on the season, also a team-high. Morgan Pieper (Fr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) took the loss as goalie for the Blugolds, playing all but the final 1:33 when Eau Claire left an open net. Pieper allowed three Stevens Point goals while making 27 saves. The Blugolds now have the week off and return to action on February 6 and 7 for a two game set with NCHA opponent Lake Forest (Ill.) at Hobbs Arena. Earlier this season, the Foresters beat Eau Claire 4-3. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Eau Claire-Stevens Point Box Score - CL - |
