HANCOCK, Mich. - The ninth-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team avenged its loss from yesterday by defeating Northern Collegiate Hockey Association rival Finlandia University (Mich.) with a score of 3-1 at the Houghton County Arena today.

The Blugolds put the puck between the pipes first at 1:46 with an even-strength goal from Beth Dittrich (Jr.-Roseville, Minn.) and the assist from Kelli Johnson (So.-Farmington, Minn.) to give the Blugolds the lead. The goal was Dittrich's eighth on the season while the assist was Johnson's fifth.

With the first period belonging to the Blugolds, Lynne Erspamer (Fr.-Marquette, Mich.) took advantage of a power-play in the second period and scored the second goal of the game with the assist from Christine Dickinson (So.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) at 1:03. Finlandia's Emily Conrad brought the score within one as she scored at 5:24 off of a power-play.

The third period belonged to the Blugolds as Dickinson picked up her fourth goal of the season at 17:38 with assists from Meghan Lorenz (So.-Wayzata, Minn.) and Lauren Havard (Sr.-San Angelo, Texas/Araphaoe). The Blugolds held off Finlandia to pick up the 3-1 win.

Morgan Pieper (Fr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) picked up the win between the pipes, making 11 saves in the net and playing all but two seconds. Finlandia's Annika Danielson took the loss while picking up 22 saves on the day. The Blugolds also outshot Finlandia on the day 25-12.

The win improves the Blugolds' record to 11-4-3 overall and 6-3-2 in NCHA play. Finlandia picked up its 16th loss of the season and is now 1-11-0 in conference play.

The Blugolds will skate back onto the ice again this Friday against UW-Stevens Point in Stevens Point. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
