EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - In its seventh overtime game of the season, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team came back to win 4-3 against seventh ranked Northern Collegiate Hockey Association rival UW-Stevens Point tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds are now 3-2-2 in their overtime games this season and are on a four game winning streak, making them10-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in NCHA play. The win keeps them in a tie for third place in the NCHA with UW-Superior. The seventh ranked and second place UW-Stevens Point drops to 6-2-1 in the NCHA and 7-2-3 on the year.

The Blugolds were the first to strike the scoreboard in the first period after Taylor Jenkins (Fr.-Austin, Minn.) scored with an assist from Christine Dickinson (So.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's) at 6:50 during an Eau Claire power-play to give the Blugolds the 1-0 lead.

The second period proved to be less lucky for the Blugolds as the Pointers' Kellye Nelson scored an unassisted goal on the Blugolds at 7:13 to tie the game up. Stevens Point waited another nine minutes before Nicole Grossmann scored the Pointers' second unassisted goal of the night to give them a 2-1 lead.

In the third period, Lauren Havard (Sr.-San Angelo, Texas/Araphaoe) got an assist from Lynn Erspamer (Fr.-Marquette, Mich.) during a power-play and scored at 5:48 to make the game even. However, the Pointers' Nicole Grossmann found the back of the Blugolds' net less than a minute later to give Stevens Point the 3-2 lead. This did not affect Eau Claire as Kelli Johnson (So.-Farmington, Minn.) scored an unassisted equalizer at 9:08 to send the game into overtime for the seventh time this season.

The Blugolds had the momentum coming into the extra period and the momentum paid off as Jackie McKay (Fr.-Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden) scored the winning goal for the Blugolds with assists from Toni Simones (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) and Beth Dittrich (Jr.-Roseville, Minn.) at 4:42 for the Blugolds' third power-play goal of the night and the 4-3 win.

Eau Claire outshot Stevens Point 31-18 and also beat them in power plays 7-4. Morgan Pieper (Fr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) defended the Blugold net tonight for the entire game, picking up her sixth win of the season, along with 15 saves on the night. Pointers' goalkeeper d?Andra Phillips had 27 saves on the night after allowing four goals on the night. The win tonight is only the third ever for the Blugolds in the all-time series against Stevens Point. The Blugolds, who came up short in five previous contests against the Pointers, move to a 3-26-1 series record against them.

The Blugolds will get a chance to sweep the weekend series against Stevens Point tomorrow. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
