EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team completed its weekend home stand with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's University (Minn.) tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

Last night the Blugolds also won their season opener over Bethel University by a score of 3-1. Eau Claire is now 2-0 on the season while St. Mary's drops to 0-1.

Meghan Lorenz (So.-Wayzata, Minn.) put the Blugolds on the board first tonight, scoring at 7:11 in the first on an assist from Christine Dickinson (So.-Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's).

In the second, St. Mary's tied it up with a power-play goal by Alex Braun at 5:27. Beth Dittrich (Jr.-Roseville, Minn.) answered less than 12 minutes later, also on a power-play, to make the score 2-1. Toni Simones (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) and Kristin Faber (So.-Austin, Minn.) assisted on the goal, which was Dittrich's second of the season and her second game-winner of the year as well.

Faber then found the net for Eau Claire less than two minutes later, picking up an even strength goal at 18:56. Simones and Dittrich were credited with the assist.

St. Mary's outshot Eau Claire 26-22 on the game and had six power-play opportunities to Eau Claire's three.

Morgan Pieper (Fr.-Williams, Minn./Warroad) played the entire game in-goal for Eau Claire and picked up 25 saves, while allowing one goal. Emily Friedl stopped 19 shots and allowed three goals, playing all 60 minutes between the pipes for St. Mary's.

Eau Claire will once again face St. Mary's next weekend. The Blugolds will play the Cardinals in Winona, Minnesota next Friday at 7 p.m. and will again take on Bethel University Saturday at 6:45 p.m. in St. Paul.
