PAUL, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team, ranked 23rd in Division III, finished in sixth place at the 31-team Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course today. UW-La Crosse took the top spot with five runners finishing 20th or better. Bethel University's Dan Greeno finished the race first today with a time of 25:22. The Blugolds ended the race with 196 points behind five runners who finished 52nd or better in the 307-runner field. Jules Miller (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./East) was the top finisher for Eau Claire today, taking 24th place with a time of 26:29. Brent Kann (Jr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) crossed the finish line four seconds later for 29th place, while Andy Warren (Sr.-Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) took 44th with a time of 26:59. Tom Breitbach (So.-Muskego, Wis.) finished with a time of 27:05 for 47th place and Ryan Bailey (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) took 52nd with a time of 27:13. There were also 12 runners today at the Olde English Classic, hosted by Beloit College. As a team, the Blugolds finished second out of six schools. Brian Riley (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) had the best time for eau Claire, taking ninth overall with a time of 27:50. Ben Pearson (Jr.-Clinton, Wis.) ran a 28:08 to take 13th, while James Marsh (Jr.-Madison, Wis./West) took 15th with a time of 28:16. Finishing 17th overall was Kenny Fillbrandt (Fr.-Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake), who complete the race in 28:24, and Jake Ring (So.-Manitowoc, Wis./Lutheran) was five seconds behind him for an 18th place finish. Next weekend Eau Claire hosts it annual Blugold Open. Racing will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. - KM - |
