Men's Golf Takes Ninth At Wrigglesworth Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished in ninth place out of 15 teams with 645 strokes at the 2008 Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invite at the Eau Claire Country Club.

St. John's University (Minn.) won the tournament with 607 strokes overall, after shooting 301 on day one and 306 on day two. UW-Stout, which led after the first day with 298 strokes, finished second overall with 608 strokes, while St. Cloud State (Minn.) placed third with 617. It was the second year in a row a team won by one stroke. Last year the Blugolds defeated Gustavus Adolphus by one.

Danny Anderson of St. Cloud was the individual medalist. He shot 72 both days to finish with 144 strokes overall. St. John's Joe Schoolmeesters, who led after the first day with 69 strokes, took second overall with 145.

Jake Brookshaw (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) led the Blugolds on the second day of the tournament with 81 strokes. Overall he shot 161 to finish tied for 38th place. Ryan Grip (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) was the highest finisher for the Blugolds after tying for 33rd with 160 strokes. Loren Churness (So.-Durand, Wis.) and K.R. Rucker (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) both shot 82 today to finish with scores of 161 and 163, respectively. Churness tied for 38th place overall, while Rucker tied for 48th. Andy Dercks (So.-Clintonville, Wis.) completed the tournament with 171 strokes overall, tying for 69th.

Next weekend the Blugolds head to St. Peter, Minn. for the three-day Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic. The tournament begins Saturday and runs through Monday.
