PAUL, Minn. - Achieving its highest point total of the season, the UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team took fourth place out of eight teams at the 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which is also the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional at Hamline University today. The Blugolds scored 179.750 for their fourth place finish, while UW-La Crosse took home its 12th straight conference title and sixth consecutive regional title with a score of 186.200. Whitewater finished right behind La Crosse with 186.025 and Winona State was third with 183.225. Last season the Blugolds took home a fifth place finish at the championship. Five Blugolds recorded personal best today. Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) was the highest finisher in an event today, taking seventh in the all-around. She recorded personal bests in the all-around with a score of 36.575 and on the uneven bars with 9.225 for a 14th place finish. Olson also had a 10th place finish on the floor. Brittany Adams (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) took 14th place on the balance beam and was the highest finisher in the event for the Blugolds with a personal best 9.100. Lauren Strecker (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville), Samantha Howard (So.-St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley), and Kerri Ritsche (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) each had personal bests on the uneven bars, taking 15th, 18th and 25th, respectively. Ritsche also recorded a personal best in the all-around with 35.600 and a 13th place finish. Anna Sutherland (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville) also was the highest finisher in an event for the Blugolds, tying for 13th on the vault with a score of 9.225. - KM - |
