EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire volleyball team ran its win streak to four matches after defeating UW-Platteville 3-1 tonight at the McPhee Physical Education Building.

The games were close, going 25-30, 30-26, 34-32, and 30-28. Platteville hit .196 to Eau Claire's .077 in game one before the Blugolds roared back to a .324 mark in game two. Platteville hit a respectable .258. The Pioneers outhit Eau Claire .200-to.196 and .262-to-.193 in games three and four, but the Blugolds took both.

Eau Claire moves to 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and 17-7 overall. Platteville drops below .500 in the WIAC with a 3-4 mark and the team now has a 20-8 record in all games.

Katie Fox (Jr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) and Nikki Peterson (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN/North) teamed up to lead the Eau Claire charge. Fox had 18 kills while Peterson tallied 17. Emily Haese (Jr.-Mishicot) put up 59 assists, one short of her season-highs. Overall, the team compiled 64 assists over Platteville's 54 and had more kills 70-to-62, but Platteville had the edge in hitting .226-to-.186.

Abby Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) and her 20 digs led on defense, but three others were in double-digits. The defense had a wall at the net tonight, marking a season-high 14.5 blocks while the visitors managed 8.5.

This is the second time this week Eau Claire has avenged a 3-0 loss from earlier this season. Platteville swept the Blugolds on Sept. 29 and St. Thomas (MN) defeated Eau Claire in three on Sept. 8. On Tuesday, Eau Claire took a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Tommies.

The Blugolds will have their final home match of the season tomorrow when they face 14th-ranked UW-La Crosse at 2 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Building. Today and tomorrow are all part of Parent/Alumni Weekend.
