Eau Claire is now 4-2 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) games and 15-7 overall. The Yellowjackets are 1-3 in conference play with a 12-9 overall mark. The scores were 30-22, 30-23, and 30-16. The Blugolds improved each game, hitting .196, .208 and finally .351. Superior had percentages of .051, .064 and -.028. Rachel Ver Voort (Fr.-Madison/Middleton) had 14 kills to lead Eau Claire. Nikki Peterson (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN/North) marked off 12 and Katie Fox (Jr.-Chippewa Falls/Chi-Hi) tallied 11 behind her as the team racked up 51 over Superior's 31. Eau Claire also hit .243 overall in comparison to .033 for the visitors. Emily Haese (Jr.-Mishicot) fueled the offense, setting her teammates up 42 times. Abby Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) and Heather Harnell (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN) led on defense with 12 digs each. Haese and Cary Rasmussen both totaled 10. The defense also managed 10.0 blocks to Superior's 4.0. The resounding win was the 24th straight match Eau Claire has won over Superior. The last time Eau Claire lost to the Yellowjackets was in 1994. Also, the sweep made for 26 straight games over Superior. The last time Eau Claire even lost a game to the Yellowjackets was in 2002. The Blugolds have a little break with no matches until Tuesday, when they face St. Thomas (MN) at home. It will also be Senior Night. - PH - |
