Eau Claire moves above .500 against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams at 2-1 and is 13-6 overall. The Blue Devils remain last in the conference on an 0-3 WIAC mark and a 9-10 record in all games. The games went 22-30, 30-14, 30-26, 25-30, and 15-10. It was the first 3-2 win for Eau Claire this season. The Blugolds hit just .087 in game one before cranking it up to .429 in the second game. They then hit .171 and .149 in the following games before posting a .280 percentage in the deciding game. Stout, meanwhile, got off to a .303 start and then dropped to -.241. The Blue Devils hit .132 and .070 before a game five .300 clip. Abby Freiborg (Jr.-Sacred Heart, MN/Renville County West) posted 20 kills while Lissa Martinez (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) and Nikki Peterson (Sr.-North St. Paul, MN/North) both had double-digits with 10 apiece. Emily Haese (Jr.-Mishicot) had 33 assists in the match. Eau Claire outhit Stout .198-to-.104 and got 59 kills to Stout's 48. Freiborg led on defense with 21 digs. Heather Harnell (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN) notched 18 as well. The Blugolds, who beat the Blue Devils for a seventh straight match, will head to third-ranked UW-Whitewater on Friday and UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. - PH - |
