Thu, Jan 16, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Blanks Lawrence Posted: Saturday, September 29, 2007 The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team blanked an opponent for the fourth time this year, taking a 9-0 decision over Lawrence University Saturday. Because of rain in Eau Claire, the match was played indoors in the McPhee Phy Ed Center. The victory improved the Blugolds' season dual meet record to 6-2 and dropped Lawrence, which beat Bethel University 7-2 Saturday morning, to 5-10 on the season. The Appleton school has lost five matches to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, previously falling to Stout (8-1), River Falls (7-2), Stevens Point (7-2) and Oshkosh (6-3). Coach Craig Monson's Blugolds picked up straight set wins in the top four singles spots. Sarah Riordan (Sr.-Appleton/North) won at No. 1 singles, Gina Dahl (So.-Ft. Atkinson) at No. 2, Kristie Carlson (Sr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) at No. 3 and Brenna McCormick (So.-Greendale) at No. 4. Erin Welch (So.-Tomah) and Liz Deprey (Sr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) needed a super tiebreaker to win their matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The Blugolds opened the match with a sweep of the doubles as Dahl and Riordan combined to win at No. 1 doubles, Carlson and McCormick at No. 2 and Deprey and Kristin Neuman (Sr.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) at No. 3. The Blugolds have three conference matches remaining on their fall schedule prior to the conference tournament in Madison, Oct. 20-21 and all of those duals will be at home. Their next outing will be Tuesday against UW-River Falls on the McPhee outdoor courts, weather-permitting. EAU CLAIRE 9, LAWRENCE 0 Singles Doubles - TP - |
