LA CROSSE - With 177.675 points, the UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team tied for fifth place out of eight schools at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship and the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Regional.

UW-La Crosse took first for the 11th year in a row with 187.700 points. UW-Oshkosh took the runner-up slot with a 182.675 score while Hamline University (MN) ranked third at 180.975. UW-Whitewater had 180.200 points for fourth while Winona State University (MN) tied Eau Claire with the 177.675 total.

Theresa Lynch (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) was the highest Eau Claire finisher on the day. She finished third on the balance beam with a season-high 9.450 score. Eau Claire had 42.125 points in the balance beam. She also grabbed ninth in the uneven parallel bars on a 9.125 effort. The Blugolds took 43.050 points in that event, a season-high.

Lynch's 36.075 all-around score was 10th for the day while Kristi Olson (Jr.-Minnetonka, MN) and her 35.500 mark took 12th.

The team notched 46.650 points on the vault, where Anna Sutherland (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville) tied for sixth with a season-best 9.500. The 46.650 mark is also Eau Claire's best this season.

The floor exercises provided 45.850 Eau Claire points. Ashley Brett (Sr.-Forest Lake, MN) had an 11th place finish for the floor exercises on a 9.375 score.

Only the top three teams advance to the NCGA Nationals. Hamline's Doug Byrnes was named WIAC Coach of the Year while La Crosse's Katie Krenz was honored as the Judy Kruckman WIAC Scholar-Athlete.
