Thu, Mar 20, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestling Goes 2-2 At The Terry Haws Duals Posted: Saturday, January 20, 2007 COLLEGEVILLE, MN - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team lost its first two duals today, but rallied to win their final two to finish 2-2 at the Terry Haws Dual Team Wrestling Tournament host by St. John's University (MN). The Blugolds are now 10-4 in dual meets this season and 15-12 overall. No.3-ranked UW-La Crosse was the only team to finish unbeaten with a 3-0 record. Concordia-Moorhead (MN) finished 3-1. The Blugolds and St. John's both finished at 2-2. In the first dual meet of the day, the Blugolds faced Ridgewater College (MN). Ridgewater is currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings. The Blugolds fell to Ridgewater by a score of 25-18. Five Blugolds picked up victories. Andy Johnston (Fr.-St. Cloud, MN/Tech) at 141 pounds pinned Greg Skerik in 2:43. Lance Valiquette (Sr.-Auburn, WA) at 165 pounds won by a 4-3 decision over fifth-ranked Jarret Hall. Joey Miller (Jr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union) at 174 pounds, Josh Holforty (So.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) at 197 pounds, and Justin Mc Auly (Sr.-Clintonville, WI) at heavyweight all won by decision. The Blugolds then faced Concordia-Moorhead. The Blugolds lost that match 27-16. The same five Blugolds were the only winners once again. All won by decision, except for Joey Miller who won by major decision over Cody Salo, 18-7. The Blugolds picked up their first win of the day against the University of Regina (Sask. CAN) by a score of 43-18. Andy Miller (So.-Appleton, WI/North) at 133 pounds, Lance Valiquette, Joey Miller, and Josh Holforty all won by forfeit. Andy Johnston won by major decision and Justin Mc Auly pinned Cody MacDonald in 2:56. Ted Sikowski (Jr.-Appleton, WI/ West) at 184 pounds was the other winner, winning by decision. In the final meet of the day the Blugolds faced the host St. John's. Eau Claire won by a score of 26-18. Andy Johnston, Lance Valiquette, Joey Miller, Josh Holforty, and Justin Mc Auly all won their matches to finish unbeaten on the day. Valiquette pinned Chris Haugen in 2:10. Andy Miller and Ted Sikowski were also victorious with Miller winning by decision and Sikowski winning by major decision. The Blugolds will face UW-Oshkosh at Luxemburg-Casco High School on Thursday night at 7 p.m. - JR - |
