Sat, Jan 25, 2025 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Walker Open Moved To September 25 Posted: Saturday, August 28, 2004 The fifth annual Walker Open golf event has been moved to September 25 following the switch of the UW-Eau Claire football game against St. John's, university athletics officials have announced. The Walker Open, named after long-time Blugold head football coach Link Walker, will now take place at Hickory Hills Golf Course with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on September 25. The event is a four-person scramble and is a fund-raiser for the Blugold football team. The event had been scheduled September 4 at Wild Ridge and was to feature Green Bay Packer legend "Fuzzy" Thurston who will be unable to attend the September 25 makeup. When the artificial turf project at Carson Park could not be completed in time for the Blugolds to play their season opener there September 4, the game was moved to St. John's Clemens Field in Collegeville at 3 p.m., thus forcing the postponement of the golf outing. The event is being spearheaded by the Blugold Football Advisory Committee of which Chuck Emerson is chair. Mark Barstad has served as the local organizing contact along with university athletic officials. The cost of the event is $75 which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, T-shirt, ticket to the Blugolds' conference opening game vs. UW-Whitewater that day and a chance to win prizes during the golf event. Registrations are being accepted by calling the Tammy Normand in the athletics office at 715 836-2427. |
