The team returns with experienced depth on offense. Forwards Lauren Havard (So.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe) and Martina Korinek (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) received honors from the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) last year. Havard was named to the second team All-NCHA while Korinek grabbed honorable mention accolades. The only other Blugold honored by the NCHA was then-senior Amanda Schultz, the team leader in goals with 12. She also received an honorable mention, but will be a key loss to the team. Havard led in points (26), power-play goals (8), and assists (15) while her 11 goals were good for second. Korinek was second in points (21) and assists (11) and third in goals (10). The next largest returning threat is Karen Hebert (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels), who had five goals and five assists last season, good for 10 points and fourth on the list. Hebert joins offensive returnees Amber Stevenson (Sr.-Eagan, MN), Laura Suppes (Sr.-Roseville, MN), Margaret Campbell (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata), Theresa Guindon (Jr.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial), and Becky Washleski (So.-Cambridge, MN/Cambridge-Isanti). All but Stevenson and Washleski had two goals last season. On the other side of the ice, the only goalie to see action last season was Heather Prochaska (Jr.-Madison/East). She started five games going 4-1. She posted 85 saves, a .876 save percentage, and 2.42 goals per game. The other two goalies are freshmen Mikaela Jobman (St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall) and Bri Lutz (Burnsville, MN). Returning defensemen Allie Campbell (Sr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Kelly Ivey (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN) will need to step up and help out a youthful group of goaltenders. Allie Campbell was third in assists last season with eight. She had one goal in 2005-06, as did Ivey. Freshman defenders include Hannah Kinney(Avoca/Riverdale), Krista Milliken (Madison/Memorial), Emily Schmitz (Garden City, MN/Mankato West), and Michelle Stohr (South St. Paul, MN). The two freshmen forwards are Beth Dittrich (Roseville, MN) and Magan Wurdelman (Sauk Rapids, MN/Sauk Rapids-Rice). Two-way players for the squad consist of freshman Amanda Alioto (Hartland/Arrowhead) and senior Tara Hayner (Stillwater, MN). The team looks to boost its overall and NCHA standings, where it went 7-12-6 and 1-8-6, respectively. - PH - |
