Sun, Dec 8, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Lynch Takes First Place In The Floor Exercise Championship Posted: Saturday, March 25, 2006 BROCKPORT, NY - UW-Eau Claire's Theresa Lynch (So. -Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear) became the third Blugold gymnast ever to win an individual national championship today as she took first place in the floor exercise with a combined score of 19.425 at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Nationals. Lynch followed up a score of 9.800 in the preliminaries last night with a 9.625 today to claim the championship. Lynch is now a two-time All-American as she received All-American honors last year in the all-around competition. Until today, the past two individual national champions were Julie Hardtke in 1985 in the balance beam and current teammate Lynn Morris (Sr.-Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) in 2003 also in the balance beam. Today, Morris earned All-American honors for the fourth straight year in the balance beam as she finished third with a score of 19.125. Morris also earned All-American honors for the second consecutive year finishing in fourth in the all-around with a score of 37.325. Morris ends her Blugold career as an eight-time All-American. Anna Sutherland (Fr.-Roseville, MN) was the only other Blugold competing today, competing in the floor exercise. Sutherland finished in 12th place with a score of 18.975. Four Blugolds were named to the NCGA All-Academic Team: Melanie Nichols (Sr.-Galesville, WI/G-E-T), Jenni Wick (Sr.-Sartell, MN), Chelsey Brickweg (Sr.-Alexandria, MN/Jefferson), and Leah Ittner (Sr.-Minneapolis, MN/South). SUNY-Cortland's Lindsey Marranaca was named NCGA Most-Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year and UW-Oshkosh's Nadalie Walsh was named NCGA Coach of the Year following the event. - JR - |
