Gymnasts Place Second At WIAC Championship, Ncga Regional

OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team placed second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship for the fourth straight year in a row with a score of 181.000 and in doing so advance to the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships.

UW-La Crosse won the conference crown for the tenth straight time and the NCGA West Regional for the fourth straight year with a score of 182.900.

In a close third behind the Blugolds was host UW-Oshkosh at 180.900. Hamline, UW-Whitewater, Winona State University, Gustavus Adolphus, and UW-Stout rounded out the field.

Theresa Lynch (So.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear) finished second for the Blugolds in the all-around with a season-high score of 37.000. Lynch was the top Blugold finisher in the floor exercise as she finished fourth with a score of 9.550.

The Blugolds as a team produced a season high score in the vault competition with a total score of 46.350. Anna Sutherland (Fr.-Roseville, MN) and Angie Cich (So.-Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) were both the Blugolds top finishers in the event with each receiving scores of 9.350.

The Blugolds finished second in the beam behind La Crosse with a score of 45.200. Jenni Wick (Sr.-Sartell, MN) was the top Blugold finisher in the balance beam with a season-high score of 9.350.

Lynn Morris (Sr.-Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) finished in sixth for the Blugolds in the all-around with a score of 36.100. Morris was the top Blugold finisher in the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.300.

Beckie Rolbiecki of Winona State University and Nadalie Walsh of Oshkosh were named the WIAC Coach of the Year at the meet. Nina Schubert of UW-La Crosse was the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Blugolds will now take part at the NCGA Championships being held in Brockport, NY at the SUNY-Brockport Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25.
