2006-07 Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week

February 12, 2007-February 18, 2007

"Margaret Campbell, Forward, 5-6, Sophomore, Plymouth, MN/Wayzata"
Campbell scored two power play goals in added one assist at the Blugolds swept a weekend series at home versus Finlandia (MI). In game one Campbell assisted a Laura Suppes goal at 12:39 of the second period to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead. In game two Campbell scored two power play goals, the first coming in the first period at 3:27 and the second coming at 3:16 of the third period to give the Blugolds a 4-2 victory over the Lions. The Blugolds remain tied for the fourth and final NCHA play-off spot with UW-Stevens Point as both teams have 14 points apiece.

February 5, 2007-February 11, 2007

"Laura Suppes, Forward, Senior, Roseville, MN"
Suppes scored one of three Blugold goals as Eau Claire lost both games of a weekend series against ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point. In a 5-2 loss to the Pointers on February 9 Suppes scored an even strength goal at 0:18 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2.

January 22, 2007-January 28, 2007

"Mikaela Jobman, Goalie, Freshman, St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall"
Jobman spearheaded a Blugold defensive effort as Eau Claire won at UW-Superior 3-1 and at Finlandia (MI) 4-1 in NCHA action. Against the fourth-ranked Yellowjackets, who were also in first place in the NCHA, Jobman saved 28-of-29 shots faced and held the Superior power play to no goals in seven attempts. The win was the first-ever for the Blugolds at Wessman Arena. In a 4-1 victory at Finlandia Jobman stopped 14-of-15 shots and helped hold the Lion power play to one goal in five attempts. For the week Jobman saved 32-of-34 (.941) shots. The Blugolds are now 7-1-1 since January 3 including wins over nationally-ranked UW-Stevens Point and UW-Superior during that stretch.

January 15, 2007-January 21, 2007

"Karen Hebert, Forward, 5-5, Senior, Lakeville, MN/Holy Angels
Also selected as NCHA Player of the Week"

Hebert scored the game-winning short-handed goal at 18:58 of the third period to give the Blugolds a 4-3 victory over sixth-ranked UW-Stevens Point in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action. The victory marked just the second win over the Pointers in school history with the other being a 2-0 win on February 7, 2004. In a 3-3 tie to Lake Forest (IL) the next day Hebert scored a goal at 19:53 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2 and assisted on the go-ahead goal at 13:59 of the third period giving the Blugolds a 3-2 lead.

January 8, 2007-January 14, 2007

"Margaret Campbell, Forward, 5-6, Sophomore, Plymouth, MN/Wayzata"
Campbell scored four assists and one goal as the Blugolds swept a weekend series against St. Mary's (MN) and St. Catherine (MN). Campbell assisted on the first four Blugolds goals against the Wildcats before scoring a goal of her own short-handed at 11:09 of the third period to preserve the 5-1 victory. The Blugolds have now won four of their last five games to start off the New Year.

January 1, 2007-January 7, 2007

"Beth Dittrich, Forward, 5-7, Freshman, Roseville, MN
Also selected as NCHA Player of the Week"

Dittrich scored four points in three games as the Blugolds went 2-1 versus the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). In a 4-2 victory against St. Catherine Dittrich scored a goal at 7:43 and added an assist at 16:11 of the third period to secure the win over the Wildcats. In a 6-1 victory at St. Olaf which snapped the Oles' six-game unbeaten streak Dittrich scored a power play goal, the only power play goal scored by the Blugolds this week, at 13:10 of the first period and assisted on a goal at 0:55 of the second period to come away with the big road win. The six goals scored against the Oles was the most by a Blugold team since a 7-0 victory against St. Catherine on February 3, 2006.

December 4, 2006-December 10, 2006

"Tara Hayner, Defenseman/Forward, 5-4, Senior, Stillwater, MN"
Hayner played solid defense and did a great job moving and rushing the puck as the Blugolds lost both games of their weekend series to fourth-ranked UW-Superior. In the first game of the weekend series Hayner assisted a Laure Suppes goal at 1:55 of the second period to give the Blugolds a 1-0 lead.

November 27, 2006-December 3, 2006

"Bri Lutz, Goalie, 5-2, Freshman, Burnsville, MN"
Lutz had a big impact both as a starter and coming off the bench as the Blugolds went 0-1-1 in a weekend series at Lake Forest (IL). In game one versus the Foresters Lutz came off the bench saving 11 shots and allowing one goal in 29:06 in a 4-2 defeat. In a 2-2 tie the following day Lutz played all 65 minutes in goal saving 19-of-21 shots faced.

November 13, 2006-November 19, 2006

"Martina Korinek, Forward, 5-6, Senior, White Bear Lake, MN"
Korinek scored two goals and added an assist as the Blugolds won at River Falls to open NCHA action. Korinek scored the first goal of the game at 8:51 of the second period to give Eau Claire a 1-0 lead. After the Falcons came back to tie the game 1-1 Korinek assisted on the game-winning goal by Karen Hebert at 0:14 of the third period to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead. Korinek scored an insurance goal at 19:53 of the third period to close out the scoring and preserve the 3-1 victory.

November 6, 2006-November 12, 2006

"Beth Dittrich, Forward, 5-7, Freshman, Roseville, MN"
Dittrich led a hard-working Blugold squad to two wins over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents St. Mary's and St. Benedict. In a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals Dittrich put the Blugolds on the scoreboard first with a short-handed goal at 15:46 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. Dittrich scored the first Blugold short-handed goal since Christa Hubert accomplished the feat at Bethel (MN) on January 26, 2005. Dittrich was not done scoring on the day as she assisted on the game-tying power play goal at 2:37 of the second period and scored an insurance goal, again on the power play, at 9:39 of the third period to extend the lead to 4-2. Against St. Benedict Dittrich scored the game-winning goal on the power play at 11:07 of the third period to give the Blugolds a 2-1 victory over the Blazers. For the week Dittrich scored three goals, two power play goals and one short-handed, and one assist to help the Blugolds even their season record at 2-2.

October 30, 2006-November 5, 2006

"Michelle Stohr, Defenseman, 5-5, Freshman, South St. Paul, MN"
Stohr made an immediate impact for the Blugolds in her first-ever collegiate action totaling two goals and an assist on the weekend. In a 5-2 setback to Bethel (MN) Stohr scored the first two goals of the game, an even-strength goal at 3:52 and a power play goal at 6:28 of the first period to give the Blugold an early 2-0 lead. The following night in a 4-2 loss at St. Thomas (MN) Stohr assisted on the final Blugold goal at 1:49 of the third period.
