2002-03 Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week
February 17, 2003-February 23, 2003
Swimming: John Welch, Jr., Marshfield
Welch performed very well at the WIAC championships as the Blugolds finished in third place. Welch grabbed two fourth place finishes and a fifth place finish during the competition. He took a fourth place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle event with a time of 17:24.89 while also grabbing a fourth place finish as a member of the Blugolds 800 yard freestyle relay. Welch also notched a fifth place finish in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:30.35.
Diving: Scott Heatwole, So., Port Washington
Led the Blugolds to a third place finish at the WIAC championships as he grabbed second place in both diving events. Heatwole took his first second place finish in the one meter diving event with a score of 412.15. Heatwole also grabbed a second place finish in the three meter event with a score of 407.65.

Swimming: Steve Fisher, Jr., Shoreview, MN (Mounds View)
Fisher showed a great performance in a dual meet with conference opponent UW-Oshkosh as he took first place in three different events. With a time of 1:00.42 he finished more than five seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke. Fisher also earned nine points for the Blugolds in the 50 yard freestyle where he took first with a time of 23.72. Fisher rounded out the swimming 'hat trick' with a victory in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 50.35.
Diving: Dan VonFeldt, Sr., Lancaster
Von Feldt had another great performance in both diving events as he took two first place finishes in a dual meet against UW-Oshkosh. For the second week in a row Von Feldt finished with a national qualifying score, this time in the 1-meter event, while setting a season-high with a score of 295.40. He wasn't finished winning diving events as he also took first place in the 3-meter event with a score of 263.80.

Swimming: John Welch, Jr., Marshfield
Welch had a great performance in the 1650 freestyle event against conference opponent UW-Whitewater. He took first place in the event with a great time of 18:03.55, nearly 36 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Welch also took third place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.37.
Diving: Dan VonFeldt, Sr., Lancaster
Von Feldt led the Blugold divers in a dual meet against UW-Whitewater as he won both the 1 and 3 meter diving events. Von Feldt's score of 291.25 in the 3-meter event was good enough to give him a national qualifying score. He also took first place in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 241.25.

Swimming: Mike Carroll, Jr., Green Lake
In dual meets against Macalester College and WIAC opponent UW-River Falls, Carroll took five first place finishes and one second place finish. Against Macalester Carroll won first place in the 800 meter freestyle and the 400 meter individual medley as well as finishing second in the 400 meter freestyle. Against the Falcons of River Falls, Carroll took first in the 1000 yard freestyle, the 200 yard butterfly, and the 500 yard freestyle.
Diving: Scott Heatwole, So., Port Washington
Heatwole took two first place finishes and two second place finishes in dual meets against Macalester and UW-River Falls. Heatwole took first in the 1 meter diving events in both meets while finishing second in the 3 meter diving events at both meets.
November 25, 2002-December 1, 2002
Swimming: Brian Bartlett, Jr., Onalaska
Took first place honors in the 500 yard freestyle event in a dual meet with UW-La Crosse. He covered the distance in 5:21.3. The finish is an improvement of five seconds from his season best and within two seconds of his personal best.
Diving: Dan VonFeldt, Sr., Lancaster
Finished first on both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events in a dual meet against UW-La Crosse. He finished the 1 meter event with a score of 215.3 and had an impressive score in the 3 meter diving event of 252.5 as the Blugold swept the first three positions in the 3 meter diving event.

Swimming: Scott Heatwole, Sr., Port Washington
Along with diving teammate Dan Von Feldt, he highlighted the WIAC Conference Relays for the Blugold men's swimming and diving team. The pair took first in the 3-meter diving competition and third in the 1-meter dive to secure the only two top three finishes for Eau Claire on the day.

Swimming: Mike Carroll, Jr., Green Lake
Led the Blugolds with a first place finish in the 1000-yd freestyle in a time of 10:42.39 and a second place finish in both the 200-yd butterfly and 500-yd freestyle in a dual meet with UW-Stevens Point. Carroll also took second in the 400-yd individual medley at the St. Cloud Invitational.
Diving: Dan Von Feldt, Sr., Lancaster
Had a first place finish in the 3-meter dive and a third place finish in the 1-meter dive in a dual meet with UW-Stevens Point. He was also the first leg on the third place 200-yd medley relay in the same dual meet. Von Feldt also brought home a third place finish in the 1-m diving event at the St. Cloud Invitational.
