Tue, Oct 15, 2024 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Blugold Super Six Chris Wirtz A four-time letterwinner in track and cross country, Wirtz completed his Blugold career last season. During outdoor nationals in 2010, Wirtz won the 3,000-meter steeplechase national title. On his way to the title, he set a UW-Eau Claire and facility record in the event. He won the outdoor conference title in the event in 2010 as well. Named the track and field MVP last season, Wirtz also captured a conference crown in the 3,000-meter run. Throughout the rest of his track career, he had a number of top-10 finishes at WIAC Championships. In cross country, Wirtz was named the most valuable runner three times and was the team's most promising newcomer his freshman season. In 2008, he was the lone runner to represent the Blugolds at nationals. In 2009 the Blugolds competed as a team at nationals and took 16th place overall while Wirtz took 99th place individually, which was the second best on the team. Wirtz, an economics major with a 3.23 GPA, was part of the cross country team that won a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award in 2009. |
