STEVENS POINT, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Aiming to qualify more Blugolds for the upcoming national championships, the UW-Eau Claire women's track & field team took part in the UW-Stevens Point Last Chance meet today, the final event before nationals.

Blugolds met provisional qualifying marks in five different events.  Talisa Emberts (Jr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) ran a 57.32 in the 400-meter dash for the third best time of the day while Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) surpassed the standard in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.88, the second-best effort of the field.

The quartet of Emberts, Corinna Saager (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./East)Erin Schoenfelder (So.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Jordanne Greenup (Jr.-Fridley, Minn.) completed the 4x400 with a provisional qualifying time of 3:55.65. This was the third-best time at today’s competition.

In field competition, Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) met provisional marks in two different events. Competing in the shot put, Frederick recorded the third-best effort with an attempt of 13.81 meters (45-03.75). Frederick also had the fourth-longest throw in the weight throw event, making a toss of 16.91 meters (55-05.75).

Other strong Blugold performances came in the 55-meter hurdles competition and the high jump. Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North) crossed the line third in hurdles with a time of 8.30. Julia Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) made the second-best attempt in the high jump, recording a result of 1.63 meters (5-04.25).

The NCAA Division III Championships will be held March 11 and 12 in Bexley, Ohio. Competition is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. each day.
