MADISON, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Seven UW-Eau Claire women's golfers were named to this year's All-WIAC Team, while Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) was named the conference's Player of the Year, Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Mattes compiled an 80.7 stroke average in 11 rounds during the fall season and broke 80 on four occasions, including a season-best 75 in the opening round of the O’Brien National Invitational. She secured medalist honors at the WIAC championship and added a second-place finish at the Georgianni Memorial Invitational, while tying for eighth at the O’Brien National Invitational. Mattes was an All-WIAC second team honoree a year ago and is the third individual in program history to earn the league’s top trophy.

Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago include UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.). Swift posted a conference-leading 80.0 stroke average this year and had her best finishes at the Wartburg (Iowa) Fall Invitational (third) and Georgianni Memorial Invitational (tied for fourth). She was a second team choice during the 2008 season.

Wagner posted an 81.5 stroke average and tied for second at the conference championship, while placing sixth at the Georgianni Memorial Invitational.

Receiving honors on the second team for the second straight year was Jamie Hauser (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead). Also named to this year’s second team were Lauren Gault (Jr.-Shorewood, Wis.), Maggie Lattery (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) and Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation).

The team was determined by using the NCAA Division III GolfStat rankings immediately following the conclusion of the conference championship. A player must have completed eight rounds in order to be considered.
