Blugolds Lead in Round One of Doug Georgianni Memorial Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - After the first round of the Doug Georgianni Memorial Invite, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf teams are in first and fourth places and lead the 22-team competition at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire.

The UW-Eau Claire “Blue” team tallied 318 strokes to finish 30 over par in the first day’s competition. Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) finished in second place with 336 strokes with UW-Whitewater right behind them with 337 strokes. UW-Eau Claire’s second “Gold” team came in fourth place with 345 strokes.

Individually, the Blugolds have five golfers in the top 10, with Sara Mattes (Jr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) leading the field with a stroke count of 77, five over par. Katie Maurer (Jr.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) racked up 79 strokes to earn third place while Emily Swift (Jr.-Onalaska, Wis.) and Catherine Wagner (So.-Austin, Minn.) tied for fifth place with 81 strokes each.

The final round of the Doug Georgianni Memorial Invite will begin 7:30 a.m. on Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
