(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field head coach Chip Schneider has announced the team award winners for the 2009-10 season. The men's MVP award went to Chris Wirtz (Sr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) while Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) won on the women's side. Wirtz won a national title at the outdoor track and field championships after setting a school and facility record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He also won two conference titles this season. Humbach competed in three events at national meets and finished second in the distance medley relay (indoor nationals), fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 12th in the 5,000-meter run (outdoor nationals). She also won two conference titles and was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team at the outdoor meet. The newcomers of the year were Mike Kosiak (Fr.-Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Erin Schoenfelder (Fr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community), who competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the outdoor national championship. She took second place at the WIAC Outdoor Championship in the event. Kosiak competed in the pole vault at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets and took fifth at the outdoor meet and eighth at the indoor meet. The Captain Awards went to Corrie Floyd (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.) and Hayley Suckow (Sr.-Elk Mound, Wis.). Floyd was named to the All-Sportsmanship team at the WIAC Indoor Championship and finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles at the outdoor conference championship. Suckow won a conference title in the pole vault at the indoor championship and went on to finish third at the indoor national championship. During outdoor nationals she also took third in the pole vault while she was also third at the conference championship. |
