STEVENS POINT, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Three members of the UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team took first place at UW-Stevens Point's Eastbay Invitational today.

Jake Zander (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) took the top spot in the one-mile run with a time of 4:21.02. Teammate Michael Borglin (Fr.-Whitewater, Wis.) finished right behind Zander in second with a time of 4:24.44.

In the 3,000-meter run, Tom Breitbach (So.-Muskego, Wis.) took first with a time of 8:42.26 while Kevin Hall (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) was second with a time of 8:47.06 in the field of 44.

In the field events, Kirk Schmidt (Jr.-Athens, Wis.) won the long jump with a leap of 6.82 meters (22-4.25) while Grant Haugan (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) was second with a distance of 6.77 meters (22-2.5).

Also finding their way to second place finishes were Jae Erickson (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) in the pole vault with a height of 4.72 meters (15-5.75), an NCAA Division III Championship provisional qualifying mark, Wes Fischer (Sr.-Rosemount, Minn.) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.94 and Patrick Mackin (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.96, also provisional qualifying mark.

The Blugolds will compete in the WIAC Championship next weekend. Multi events will start on Friday while the full championship will be contested on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
