EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team bounced back from its' season opening loss on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Bethel University at Hobbs Ice Area Saturday afternoon.

The two teams skated to a scoreless tie after one period for the second time in two games. The zeros did not stay on the board for long in the second period thanks to an unassisted goal by Beth Dittrich (So.-Roseville, MN) at 4:35. The goal was Dittrich's first of the season. After falling behind 1-0, Bethel bounced back quickly with a goal of its own at 9:36 of the second period. At this time, Amy Beitzel set up Kassie Sullivan for a power play goal to tie the game at one apiece. The score remained tied at one, until the Blugold's Kristin Faber (Fr.-Austin, MN) capitalized on a 4 on 3 player advantage at 19:56 of the second period. Faber's goal was assisted by Christine Knop (Fr.-Coon Rapids, MN) and Lauren Havard (Jr.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe).

Thanks to Faber's goal with four seconds left in the second, the Blugolds took a 2-1 lead into the third period. The Blugolds added to their lead in the third period when Maddi Hammer (Fr.-Owatonna, MN) found Christine Dickinson (Fr.-Layton, UT/Shattuck St. Marry's) who put the puck past Bethel's Beth Spurrier at 3:54 of the third period. That would be all the scoring the Blugolds would need for the day, as they limited Bethel to four shots in the third period and 17 for the game.

Danika Porter (Fr.-Rosemount, MN/South St. Paul) stopped 16 of the 17 shots Bethel threw at her Saturday afternoon. Porter is now 1-1-0 on the season with a 1.5 Goals against average.

After a relatively penalty free game on Friday night between these two squad, the two teams combined for 17 penalties on Saturday. Bethel sent six players to the penalty box and Eau Claire sent 11. Neither of the teams cashed in on the large amount of penalties, as the Blugolds went 1-6 on the power play and Bethel went 1-11.

The Blugolds will take the Ice again next weekend when they host St. Thomas on Friday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The team will also play its' alumni game next Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights.
