The Blugolds are 3-4-1 this season and 1-2-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) after going 0-1-1 last weekend at Lake Forest (IL). The Yellowjackets are 9-2-0 overall this season and are at the top of the NCHA standings with a 3-1-0 record. The Blugolds are out-shooting their opponents by a staggering 120-56 this season. The Blugolds are averaging 15 shots per game. Eau Claire has scored eight power play goals this season and has just allowed four. They have also committed 10 less penalties than their opponents and are at the top NCHA with the fewest penalty minutes. The best scoring period for the Blugolds has been the third period where they have scored seven of their 18 goals. Martina Korinek (Sr.-White Wear Lake, MN), Beth Dittrich (Fr.-Roseville, MN), Lauren Havard (So.-San Angelo, TX/Arapahoe), and Michelle Stohr (Fr.-South St. Paul, MN) all have three goals to lead the Blugolds. Havard leads the team with five assists and eight points. Dittrich is second on the team with seven points. Eau Claire goaltender Bri Lutz (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) is coming off of a solid performance against Lake Forest on Saturday. This season Lutz has 96 saves and a 1.97 goals against average. She has a record of 3-2-1 on the year. Superior has won two straight after sweeping Finlandia University (MI) last weekend. The Yellowjackets are on top of the conference in goals scored (42) and assists (59). They by far have the most power play goals in the conference with 21 with next closest team has 13. They also have the best penalty killing percentage in the NCHA, not allowing a power play goal 91% of the time. Erin Kegley leads the conference with 10 goals scored and in points with 21. Seven of her 10 goals are power play goals. Teammate Stacy Anderson leads the NCHA with 15 assists. Superior goaltender Melissa Kunzelman has 0.60 goals against average as she has allowed only three goals in a little less than 300 minutes played. The Blugolds are just 2-21-1 all-time against Superior but tied in their last meeting in Hobbs last January. Both Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Hobbs Ice Center. - JR - |
