2010-11 Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week

January 17, 2011-January 23, 2011

Swimming: Nicole Dorvinen, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
Dorvinen won three events this weekend at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational, where the Blugolds finished in third place out of six teams. She finished with a time of 5:17.11 in the 500-yard freestyle, 2:10.70 in the 200-yard butterfly and 17:54.44 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She was also part of the second place 800-yard freestyle relay team as well.

November 29, 2010-December 5, 2010

Swimming: Karen Boosalis, Junior, Maple Grove, Minn.
Boosalis had an excellent meet this weekend at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. She recorded a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:59.64, 27 seconds faster than the next finisher. She also took third in the 500-yard freestyle, third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 400-yard individual medley.

November 15, 2010-November 21, 2010

Swimming: Nicole Dorvinen, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
Dorvinen set a pool record in the 200-yard butterfly as the Blugolds beat River Falls 120-27 Friday. Her time of 2:11.33 in the event was nearly two seconds faster than the previous pool record, which was set in 2001, and she won by more than 14 seconds. She was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team and a 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished with the top time. On Saturday at the La Crosse Relays, she was part of two winning relay teams, taking first in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:58.18 and 850-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:38.49.

November 8, 2010-November 14, 2010

Swimming: Casey Preissel, Senior, Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
Preissel won the 200-yard freestyle and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team as the Blugolds defeated UW-Oshkosh 117-29 on Saturday. She finished with a time of 1:59.67 in the 200-yard event while the 400-yard medley relay won with a mark of 4:15.94. She also led off the 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished with the best time, while she finished with a season-best split in her portion. She also had the second best time in the 100-yard freestyle.

Diving: Katrina Fitzgerald, Sophomore, Farmington, Minn.
Fitzgerald recorded a personal-best in the one-meter dive Saturday as the Blugolds defeated UW-Oshkosh 117-29. She finished with a mark of 237.15 in the one-meter event to win it and also had the top score in the three-meter dive with a 214.75.

October 25, 2010-October 31, 2010

Swimming: Nicole Dorvinen, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
Facing UW-Stevens Point and St. Cloud State University on Saturday, Dorvinen took first in both the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events, with respective times of 5:18.33 and 10:53.83. She also grabbed the victory in the 200-yard butterfly competition with a winning time of 2:11.75.

October 18, 2010-October 24, 2010

Swimming: Julia Olson, Junior, Faribault, Minn.
Olson was part of three event wins on Saturday as the Blugolds defeated Northern Michigan University 141-101. She won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.77 while taking the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.57. She also led off the Blugolds' winning 400-yard freestyle relay team, which finished with a time of 3:44.86, more than 20 seconds ahead of the second-place team from NMU.

October 11, 2010-October 17, 2010

Swimming: Julia Olson, Junior, Faribault, Minn.
While the Blugolds fell short to NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday, Olson competed well. She took first the in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles while taking second in the 200-yard freestyle relay and third in the 200-yard medley relay.
