2011 Soccer Athletes of the Week

October 24, 2011-October 30, 2011

Offense: Katie Richter, Forward, 5-5, Junior, Waukesha, Wis./West
The Blugolds split conference games this week but Richter played a key role in a 3-2 win at UW-Stout on Wednesday. Richter scored the Blugolds' final two goals, including the eventual game-winner, in the second half against the Blue Devils to give the Blugolds a 3-1 lead. Stout scored later in the match but the Blugolds held on for the win.

Defense: Alyssa Walker, Defender, 5-7, Senior, Madison, Wis./West
While the Blugolds split conference games this week, Walker and the rest of the Blugold defense held both teams to single-digit shot totals. Wednesday a UW-Stout, the Blue Devils finished with only eight shots while UW-Whitewater had just nine on Saturday.

October 17, 2011-October 23, 2011

Offense: Allie Stone, Midfielder, 5-6, Sophomore, Madison, Wis./Verona Area
In two games this week, the Blugolds tied UW-La Crosse 0-0 and fell to ninth-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) 3-1. Against Wartburg, Stone scored the Blugolds' lone goal at 27:39. The goal was just the 10th given up by the Knights this season.

Defense: Alyssa Walker, Defender, 5-7, Senior, Madison, Wis./West
In two games this week, the Blugolds tied UW-La Crosse 0-0 and fell to ninth-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) 3-1. Walker and the rest of the Blugold defense allowed just 12 UW-La Crosse shots Saturday, only three of which were on-goal, while giving up 16 against Wartburg, only five of which were on-goal. The knights have only come up with fewer than five shots on goal four times this year and average almost nine per game.

October 10, 2011-October 16, 2011

Offense: Paige LeGate, Forward, 5-5, Sophomore, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
In one game this week, the Blugolds tied opponent Carleton College (Minn.) 1-1 in double overtime. With the Blugolds down 1-0 in the final minutes, LeGate scored her seventh goal of the season with just over three minutes left in regulation to tie the game.

Defense: Emily Moore, Defender, 5-10, Junior, Brookfield, Wis./Central
Moore and the rest of the Blugold defense gave up just one goal in one game this weekend, helping the Blugolds to tie Carleton College (Minn.) 1-1 in double overtime Sunday. Carleton finished with just seven shots, four of which were on-goal.

October 3, 2011-October 9, 2011

Offense: Brittany Burant, Defender, 5-11, Senior, Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH
With the Blugolds going 2-1 in three home games this week, Burant helped the team pick up a win Wednesday against St. Thomas (Minn.) as she scored the game-winner. The goal came at 1:04 in the second overtime period and the Blugolds came away with a 1-0 win. She also had three shots in the game and accumulated three more Sunday against Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.).

Defense: Abby Beinlich, Defender, 5-5, Sophomore, Madison, Wis./Memorial
Beinlich was part of a Blugold defense that gave up just two goals in three games this week. The team allowed just 15 shots, only eight on-goal, and finished with a record of 2-1, including a 2-0 conference win over UW-River Falls on Saturday.

September 26, 2011-October 2, 2011

Offense: Katie Richter, Forward, 5-5, Junior, Waukesha, Wis./West
Richter had three shots and one goal this weekend as the Blugolds picked up two wins. Sunday against Macalester College (Minn.), a team ranked higher in the region than the Blugolds, Richter scored the Blugolds' second goal in a 3-0 victory. She had two shots in that game and recorded another shot against UW-Platteville on Saturday. The Blugolds beat Platteville 2-1 in double overtime.

Defense: Emily Moore, Defender, 5-10, Junior, Brookfield, Wis./Central
Moore was part of a defense that allowed just 10 shots, only four on-goal, in two games this weekend. Against Macalester College (Minn.) on Sunday, the Blugolds won 3-0 and didn't allow a single shot on goal, the first time the Scots haven't had one since September 5, 2006. Moore and the Blugolds allowed just four shots on goal against UW-Platteville, a team the Blugolds beat 2-1 in double overtime Saturday.

September 19, 2011-September 25, 2011

Offense: Rachel Nerison, Forward, 5-5, Senior, Maple Grove, Minn.
Nerison played in two games this week and scored two goals while picking up one assist. Against Luther College (Iowa) on Sunday, Nerison put the Blugolds on the board less than three minutes into the game. She then assisted on the eventual game-winner less than a minute later, helping the Blugolds to a 2-1 win. Saturday she scored the Blugolds loan goal 40 seconds into the second half but the Blugolds dropped the match 3-1 at UW-Oshkosh. For the week, she finished with three shots.

Defense: Emily Moore, Defender, 5-10, Junior, Brookfield, Wis./Central
Playing in three games this week, Moore and the Blugold defense allowed just four goals as the team went 1-1-1. Wednesday against St. Olaf College (Minn.) the Blugolds allowed just three shots as the teams tied, ending a six-game Ole winning-streak. Saturday against UW-Oshkosh, the Blugolds gave up 12 shots while finishing with 20 of their own and held Luther College (Iowa) to one goal in 11 shots on Sunday.

September 12, 2011-September 18, 2011

Offense: Paige LeGate, Forward, 5-5, Sophomore, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
LeGate recorded two goals and an assist this week as the Blugolds played two conference opponents. Facing Superior on Wednesday, LeGate scored two goals, one in each half, while also picking up an assist in the first half. She finished with four shots as the Blugolds beat the Yellowjackets 5-0.

Defense: Brittany Burant, Defender, 5-11, Senior, Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH
Burant scored two goals and helped the Blugolds finish with more shots than their opponents in two games against conference opponents this week. On Wednesday, Burant scored the game-winning goal on a long-range shot which can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8UnU5FHNEo#t=0m16s. She also scored another goal in the second half as the Blugolds beat the Yellowjackets 5-0. As a team, the Blugolds outshot Superior 26-2.

September 5, 2011-September 11, 2011

Offense: Paige LeGate, Forward, 5-5, Sophomore, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
LeGate scored a game-winning goal while assisting on another in two games this weekend in Minnesota. At St. Benedict on Friday, LeGate picked up an assist on the Blugolds' lone goal in a 1-0 victory. Saturday, she scored the Blugolds' second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, at Augsburg College where the Blugolds won 3-1. With the two wins, the Blugolds improve to 3-1 on the season.

Defense: Nina Behrenbrinker, Goalkeeper, 5-8, Sophomore, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall
Behrenbrinker played 180 minutes in-goal for the Blugolds this weekend and helped lead the team to two victories in Minnesota. On Friday, she needed to stop just one shot as the Blugolds beat St. Benedict 1-0. The shutout was her second of the season. Saturday against Augsburg College, she made six saves as the Blugolds won 3-1.

August 29, 2011-September 4, 2011

Offense: Rachel Nerison, Forward, 5-5, Senior, Maple Grove, Minn.
Nerison helped the Blugolds to a 1-1 record this weekend at the Bob Baptista Invitational. She scored two goals on Friday to help the Blugolds to a 4-0 victory over DePauw University (Ind.). On Saturday in a 3-0 loss to seventh-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.), she finished the game with two shots.

Defense: Alyssa Walker, Defender, 5-7, Junior, Madison, Wis./West
Walker helped the Blugolds to a 1-1 record this weekend at the Bob Baptista Invitational. On Friday in a 4-0 win over DePauw University (Ind.), Walker and the Blugolds allowed the Tigers just four shots, only three on-goal. On Saturday despite a 3-0 loss, Walker and the Blugolds held a high-powered Wheaton College (Ill.) offense to just 15 shots. Wheaton All-American Jamie Orewiler, who averaged almost five shots per game last season, was held to only one shot Saturday.
