2004-05 Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week

February 14, 2005-February 20, 2005

Tara Hayner, D/F, So., Stillwater, MN
Hayner led a furious Blugold comeback Saturday night in a 4-2 win over conference foe Finlandia (MI). With the Blugolds in a 2-1 hole in the third period, Hayner tied the game with the first of her two goals on the night. After Eau Claire had taken a 3-2 lead, Hayner put the Lions away with her second goal of the night. She also helped the Blugolds to a 4-3 victory on Friday night to give Eau Claire a 2-0 record on the week.

February 7, 2005-February 13, 2005

Christa Hubert, Forward, Sr., Blaine, MN
Hubert played hard and had a good weekend as the only graduating senior on the Blugold roster. In her second to last home weekend of her career, Hubert helped Eau Claire to a 3-1 victory over NCHA opponent Lake Forest and a 4-2 exhibition win over Robert Morris. With the Blugolds down 1-0 against the Foresters on Friday, Hubert tied the game with the first of three unanswered goals by Eau Claire, paving the way to the Blugolds' second conference win of the season. She played hard on both ends of the ice as Eau Claire tallied its 12th win of the season, increasing its school record for wins in a season.

January 10, 2005-January 16, 2005

Jill Arendt, Goalie, Fr., Plymouth, MN (Wayzata)
Arendt continued her phenomenal debut season with back to back wins over River Falls this weekend. She moved to 9-3-1 between the pipes this season, setting an Eau Claire single season record for wins by a goalie. Arendt stifled River Falls all weekend, allowing just two goals in two games to the Falcons. In Friday's 3-1 win, Arendt tallied 22 saves and did not allow a goal until midway through the third period. In Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Falcons, Arendt allowed a goal halfway through the first period but held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way. She finished the road game with 30 saves to earn the victory.

January 3, 2005-January 9, 2005

Amber Stevenson, Forward, So., Eagan, MN
Stevenson led the Blugolds to a 3-0 record last week and set a Blugold record with five assists in one game, a 10-1 drumming of Hamline on Wednesday. The five assists also gave her an Eau Claire record with five points in a single game. In Friday's 4-0 shutout of St. Mary's, Stevenson gave the Blugolds a 2-0 lead early in the first period to provide some breathing room. She finished the week with six points on a goal and five assists, but more importantly finished with three wins.

December 6, 2004-December 11, 2004

Allie Campbell, Defense, So., Plymouth, MN (Wayzata)
Campbell was a key component of the Blugold defense that held 10th-ranked UW-River Falls to just one goal on 28 shots in a 4-1 victory over the Falcons. The victory was the first for the Blugolds over the Falcons in school history. Coach Collins said the Campbell played a 'phenomenal' two games for the Blugolds, who also lost to 8th-ranked UW-Superior 4-1.

November 15, 2004-November 21, 2004

Amanda Schultz, Forward, Jr., Stevens Point (SPASH)
Schultz played a big role in the Blugolds' 2-2 tie against NCHA opponent Lake Forest this weekend. In a 1-0 hole, Schultz assisted on a goal by Laura Suppes to tie the game at one. After another Forester goal, Schultz scored the game-tying goal in the second period. The two teams skated the rest of the second and all of the third period and overtime to a scoreless tie.

November 8, 2004-November 14, 2004

Claire Parda, Forward, Jr., Waukesha (Catholic Memorial)
Parda provided a spark for the Eau Claire offense as the Blugolds outscored their opponents 14-2 in home wins over St. Catherine and St. Benedict. In a 9-1 win over St. Kate's, Parda assisted on the first of a team-record nine goals while also adding a goal in the second period. In a 5-1 win over St. Benedict, Parda scored a short-handed goal in the first period which proved to be the game-winner. She finished the week with two goals and an assists while showing great hustle in both games.
