2010-11 Basketball Athletes of the Week

February 14, 2011-February 20, 2011

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick led the Blugolds twice in scoring this week as they beat UW-Superior 74-62 Wednesday and UW-Stout 67-64 on Saturday. Facing Superior, Mesick scored 17 points to lead Eau Claire while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds. Against Stout, she finished with a game-high 18 points and had six rebounds. For the week she totaled seven assists, three blocks and three steals. Mesick is now tied for fourth on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with 1,434 career points.

February 7, 2011-February 13, 2011

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick scored a career-high 31 points Saturday to lead the Blugolds at Whitewater. She went 12-for-19 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the free throw line while pulling down six rebounds, second most on the team. Wednesday at Stevens Point, she pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds (two offensive, 14 defensive) to lead the game. She also had 19 points in that contest, recording her eighth double-double of the season. For the week she finished with 50 points, 22 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals.

January 31, 2011-February 6, 2011

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick helped lead the Blugolds to two conference wins last week, defeating River Falls 45-32 on Wednesday while narrowly defeating Platteville 46-45 on Saturday. In Wednesday's victory, Mesick scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds, tying for team-highs in both categories. Saturday, she scored a game-high 13 points and tied for a team-high with six rebounds. She also nailed the game-winning basket with less than four seconds to play. For the week she finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds while coming away with three steals, two blocks and one assist.

January 24, 2011-January 30, 2011

Nicole Christianson, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Chetek, Wis.
With just one game this week against UW-Oshkosh, Christianson led the Blugolds in scoring with 18 points. She went 7-for-14 from the floor, including hitting three of seven shots from beyond the arc. She also pulled down five rebounds while coming away with two assists and a steal. She played 39 minutes of the contest but the Blugolds fell short to the Titans 62-53.

January 17, 2011-January 23, 2011

Ellen Plendl, Center, 6-5, Junior, Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell
In two games this week, the Blugolds split, falling 61-46 against eighth-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday while picking up a 61-43 win at UW-La Crosse on Saturday. Against the Pointers, Plendl finished with a double-double, her second of the season, leading the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Facing the Eagles, she had eight points and eight rebounds, tying for a team-high. For the week she had six blocks and two steals while she finished shooting .563 (9-for-16) from the floor.

January 10, 2011-January 16, 2011

Nicole Christianson, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Chetek, Wis.
The Blugolds went 2-1 in games this week, winning the two games by a large margin and falling to 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater by one point. In a 71-50 victory over UW-Stout on Monday, the Blugolds were down by three points at halftime but battled back in the second half, using a run of 35-3, to capture the win. Christianson had some impressive numbers in that game, pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring seven points while picking up seven assists and two steals. Wednesday in a 79-56 win at UW-Superior, she was one of three players with a double-double as she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. In Saturday's 71-70 loss to UW-Whitewater, she tied for a game-high 17 points and had five rebounds and five assists. For the week, playing 93 minutes, she had 58 points, 23 rebounds, 16 assists, five steals and one block.

December 20, 2010-January 2, 2011

Sarah Bingea, Forward, 6-0, Sophomore, Delano, Minn.
The Blugolds finished with a 2-1 record over the last couple weeks, defeating Luther College (Iowa) 70-35 on Dec. 20 and Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) 79-38 on Dec. 29 while falling to Hanover College (Ind.) 71-70 on Dec. 30. Bingea was third on the team in scoring two times, recording nine points against Hanover and 12 against Mount St. Joseph. She was also the Blugolds' leading rebounder against Hanover with nine, also a game-high. In the three games she accumulated 23 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and three steals.

December 13, 2010-December 19, 2010

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick helped the Blugolds to a dominating 73-46 victory over Randolph-Macon College (Va.) at the 2010 Daytona Beach Shootout in Florida on Sunday. Mesick finished the game with a double-double, her fourth this season, as she scored a career-high 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. The 12 boards rank second best in her time with the Blugolds while her career-high of 14 came earlier this season. She also had four steals to tie for the third best total in her career and also came away with three assists. From the floor she went 12-for-18 and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

December 6, 2010-December 12, 2010

Leah Rempert, Guard, 5-9, Sophomore, Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger
Rempert reached a career-high 17 points to lead the Blugolds despite a 65-64 to UW-River Falls on Wednesday. She also finished with four rebounds and had a team-high three steals and one assist. She went 5-for-8 from the three-point line.

November 29, 2010-December 5, 2010

Nicole Christianson, Guard, 5-10, Junior, Chetek, Wis.
Christianson had two big games for the Blugolds as the team went 1-1 on the week facing WIAC opponents. In the Blugolds' 64-52 win over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, she had 12 points, scoring the game's first five points, while coming away with four assists, three blocks, one steal and one rebound. Despite a 64-50 loss to UW-La Crosse on Saturday, she finished with 16 points, tying a team-high, while finishing with six rebounds and five assists.

November 22, 2010-November 28, 2010

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
The Blugolds defeated two ranked opponents this week and Mesick led the team in scoring and rebounding in both. Tuesday Eau Claire beat 21st-ranked St. Norbert College while Mesick nearly reached a double-double but came up one rebound short. Mesick led the game with 23 points while pulling down nine rebounds. She went 9-for-9 from the free throw line, tying a school record for best free throw percentage in a game. On Saturday the Blugolds defeated NCAA Division II MSU-Mankato, ranked 25th, and Mesick recorded her second double-double of the season as she finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, both of which led the game. For the week, she also had six steals, four assists and two blocks.

November 15, 2010-November 21, 2010

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Senior, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick reached 1,000 points in her career as the Blugolds came up short 69-58 in their season-opener at the College of St. Benedict on Tuesday. In that game she led all players with 25 points, going 11-for-17 from the floor, and had seven rebounds. In Friday's 62-48 victory at Millikin University (Ill.) she recorded a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, which was also a career-high. Despite a close 69-64 loss to Marian University (Ind.) on Saturday, Mesick again had a big game, scoring 26 points, a season-high and two shy of her career record, while leading the game with eight rebounds. She went 14-for-15 from the free throw line, two short of a program record for most free throws made in a game. After the three games, she ranks 13th on the Blugolds' all-time scoring list with 1,072 points. Just 14 others have ever reached 1,000 points in their careers as Blugold women's basketball players. Mesick was also named to the Millikin Tournament All-Tournament Team after the weekend games.
